BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Police officers in Brooklyn made a grisly discovery when they were sent on a wellness check.
The officers were at a sixth-floor apartment on Linwood Street in East New York City on Wednesday afternoon to check on a 22-year-old woman, WNBC reported.
Tenants had reported a strong odor.
When they entered the apartment, they found blood inside and dismembered human remains contained in two suitcases.
Police could not confirm if all of the victim’s body was accounted for.
Police have not said if the victim was the person they were sent to check on or if it was someone else, WNBC reported. However, WABC reported that detectives assume the remains belong to the woman who lived there, who had not been seen for several days. A medical examiner will confirm the victim’s identity and how the person died.
Neighbors told police that the woman lived with a man and the pair had fought in the past. Police are trying to find him to talk with him, WABC reported.
