RABBIT HASH, Ky. — Most of the candidates in one mayoral contest go by first names.
There’s Wilbur-Beast, Jack Rabbit and Cooper.
But they’re not humans running for the mayor’s seat in the town of Rabbit Hash, Kentucky; it’s 13 dogs, a donkey, a rooster and a late cat vying for the mayor’s seat along with a single human candidate, WKRC reported.
In all, there are 17 names on the ballot for Rabbit Hash’s mayor.
But while the race for the city’s leader may seem odd outside of Rabbit Hash, it isn’t for the community itself.
The first race for mayor was held 22 years ago and a dog has always been elected mayor.
The current mayor is a good girl named Brynneth Pawltrow, a rescued pit bull, according to her campaign page.
She was preceded by Lucy Lou, Junior and the town’s first mayor, Goofy.
In reality, the mayor’s race isn’t really an election; instead, it’s a fundraiser with money going to the Rabbit Hash Historical Society to pay for repairs, bills and insurance.
The cost to vote is $1 and unlike a real race, you can vote often.
So far, more than $11,600 has been raised with a goal of $50,000 set.
