NASHVILLE — Low cost retailer Dollar General is planning to launch a new brand of bargain stores called Popshelf selling items for $5 or less, similar to the chain Five Below.
The first two locations will open in Nashville in October with plans to open 30 more stores by the end of next year.
“We have leveraged robust consumer insights to create a unique store that we believe will resonate with new customers, while providing Dollar General with even more opportunities for growth in the years ahead,” Todd Vasos, Dollar General chief executive officer, said in a statement.
The stores will sell home decor, crafts, toys, beauty and cleaning supplies and other household and specialty items with 95% of the inventory selling for less than $5.
“This is Popshelf,” the company said on its website. “Where there’s fun in every find. Surprise on every shelf. And joy in every visit.”
