Domino’s Pizza may have created a business bringing food to customers’ front doors, but it’s now asking customers to come to the shop to pick up orders — and the company will pay customers to do it.
From now until May 22, Domino’s will be “tipping” $3 each time a customer orders online then drives to get their food. But the tip will not be in cold hard cash. Instead, it will be a coupon code for a credit on a future online carryout order, CNN reported.
There is a catch. The code can only be used on orders of more than $5 pre-tax and tip.
In the announcement, Art D’Elia, Domino’s executive president and chief marketing officer said, “It takes skill to get pizza from a Domino’s store to your door. As a reward, Domino’s is giving a $3 tip to online carryout customers who take the time and energy out of their day to act as their own delivery drivers. After all, we think they deserve it.”
The deal comes at a time that delivery drivers will be in demand as the company usually delivers about 2 million pizzas on Super Bowl Sunday. CNN reported that companies are seeing a shortage of workers along with inflation, which may be hurting Domino’s bottom line.
The company’s earnings will be released on March 1, CNN reported.
