Elon Musk and Grimes reveal they have second child together, born in December

Grimes, in an interview with Vanity Fair, appeared to leak the existence of the child, which had been kept a secret until now.

In the Vanity Fair cover article, the reporter was interviewing Grimes at her home when a baby cried. Grimes had said her son and Musk were out of the home. When the baby cried, Grimes said to the reporter, “I’m not at liberty to speak on these things. Whatever is going on with family stuff, I just feel like kids need to stay out of it, and X is just out there. I mean, I think E is really seeing him as a protégé and bringing him to everything and stuff … X is out there. His situation is like that. But yeah, I don’t know.”

Ultimately, Grimes revealed the couple had a baby girl.

The new baby’s name is Exa Dark Sideræl Musk, and the family calls her “Y,” CBS News reported. Grimes and Musk previously had a boy in March 2020 whom they named X Æ A-12, and nicknamed “X.”

Exa is a reference to a super-computing term, Dark represents the unknown, and Sideræl was both a nod to Galadriel from “Lord of the Rings” as well as a “more elven” spelling of sidereal, which is “the true time of the universe, star time, deep space time, not our relative earth time,” USA Today reported.

The singer told Vanity Fair that she and Musk used a surrogate to carry their daughter, which combined with the pandemic, made it relatively easy to keep the child a secret. For fans who believed the two had split up, Grimes explained the couple’s relationship to the magazine saying, “There’s no real word for it. I would probably refer to him as my boyfriend, but we’re very fluid. We live in separate houses. We’re best friends. We see each other all the time … We just have our own thing going on, and I don’t expect other people to understand it.”

Grimes also told Vanity Fair the couple is planning to have more children, saying their goal is to have three or four.
