Eminem released a new song Friday, a response to a TikTok campaign that attempted to “cancel” the rapper because of a controversial lyric written a decade ago.
“Tone Deaf,” an animated video, is a track off Eminem’s 2020 album, “Music to Be Murdered By -- Side B,” Rolling Stone reported. It is an answer to a TikTok campaign that called for the rapper to be “canceled” due to a resurfaced controversial lyric from his 2010 single with Rihanna, “Love the Way You Lie,” New Music Express reported. Critics said the song’s lyrics glorify toxic relationships and domestic violence, the network reported.
On the track’s chorus, Eminem raps: “I can’t understand a word you say (I’m tone-deaf)/ I think this way I prefer to stay (I’m tone-deaf)/ I won’t stop even when my hair turns gray (I’m tone-deaf)/ ‘Cause they won’t stop until they cancel me.”

The music artist from Detroit shared part of the track’s lyrics, which appear to address the backlash, on Twitter. The video serves as an overview of his legacy and his refusal to sanitize his music, Rolling Stone reported.
Fans of Eminem, born Marshall Bruce Mathers III, defended him on social media against members of Generation Z, people born between the mid-1990s to the early 2010s, NBC News reported.
In a tweet this week, “The View” co-host Meghan McCain wrote: “Eminem will not be canceled. Come at me Z’s.”

“Lose Yourself,” one of Eminem’s most popular songs, recently surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify, NBC News reported. The 2002 track was the lead single from the soundtrack to his film, “8 Mile,” and earned him an Academy Award in 2003 for best original song.
