MINOT, N.D. — Howling winds and severe weather caused the cancellation of a Kid Rock concert in North Dakota on Friday night. Some fans unhappy with the decision howled even louder.
The entertainer’s concert was supposed to kick off the North Dakota State Fair in Minot, but “high winds, lightning and severe weather in the area” forced the cancellation, fair officials tweeted. Kid Rock was scheduled as the opening headline Grandstand concert, according to the Minot Daily News.
But despite the promise of refunds, some concertgoers became unruly, The Bismarck Tribune reported. Fans posted angry comments on social media, complaining that opening act Night Ranger performed and that fair carnival rides were not closed down by weather, according to the newspaper.

Video footage posted on social media showed fans throwing cups or bottles at the stage. One video showed a person jumping on stage and being tackled, the Tribune reported.
Kid Rock tweeted his disappointment in canceling his appearance.
“I know it sucks but none of us can control Mother Nature,” the 51-year-old singer tweeted. “Please be safe leaving and take care of each other.”
The National Weather Service reported wind damage north of Minot around the time of the planned concert, the Tribune reported. That included tree and roof damage at Minot Air Force Base and a damaged farm building near Lansford. There were reports of a funnel cloud near Glenburn and wind in excess of 60 mph. There was also a severe thunderstorm watch in effect, according to the newspaper.
