ALOHA, Ore. — A FedEx driver from Portland, Oregon, was arrested Friday afternoon on charges of attempted sexual abuse and attempted sodomy of a 9-year-old girl investigators said he lured with candy.
Alejandro Negrete, 24, is facing the pair of first-degree charges after a parent told deputies with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office that the girl had been playing outside her home when a FedEx driver made a delivery at a neighboring home and then offered the child candy. Deputies said the driver, identified with the assistance of FedEx as Negrete, then tried to sexually assault the girl, KPTV reported.
“The (Washington County) Sheriff’s Office wishes to thank FedEx for their immediate and full cooperation, which was crucial in helping deputies locating Mr. Negrete quickly,” the office stated in a news release.
According to deputies, the child was able to escape the situation, tell her parent what happened and provide a description of her attacker.
Investigators are concerned, however, that there may be more victims and have identified at least one other person who they said Negrete sexually assaulted but noted that that incident did not occur while he was on the clock for the delivery service, KPTV reported.
FedEx confirmed to deputies that Negrete’s regular routes covered the Aloha and Tigard areas seven days a week.
