Rapper Lil Wayne was detained briefly at a Miami airport Monday after local law enforcement received a tip the private plane on which he was a passenger was transporting drugs, according to multiple reports.
The Miami Herald reported that Miami-Dade Police alerted federal authorities to the situation and, after obtaining a search warrant, the joint investigation led by FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives seized cocaine and a gun from the Gulfstream G-V.
Miami defense attorney Howard Srebnick represents Lil Wayne, 37, and said his client was “cleared” by federal investigators to leave the scene at Miami-Opa locka Executive Airport Monday evening, TMZ reported.
According to the Herald, the rapper, also know as Weezy, was not singled out by authorities during the raid. Lil Wayne was one of multiple passengers on the aircraft capable of accommodating as many as 14 passengers and a crew. All of the passengers were required to wait at the airport until the search was complete, the newspaper reported.
Srebnick confirmed Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., does not own the plane, WSVN reported.
According to the Herald, law enforcement sources confirmed no immediate charges were filed, but that could change.
Weezy appeared to take the incident in stride, taking to social media hours later to reassure fans.
