FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A group of travelers got into a fight at the Fort Lauderdale airport after they were kicked off a plane for refusing to wear face masks.
Three women were kicked off American Airlines flight 2558 to Chicago Wednesday for failing to follow social hygiene orders, WSVN reported.
“(The passengers were removed for) refusing to comply with the federal mask mandate and not following crew member instructions,” the airline told Fox News.
As they were escorted to the terminal, other passengers waiting at the gate jeered them which escalated into a physical fight between the women and another traveler.
“The verbal argument stemmed from three of the travelers failing to wear their masks,” Broward County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Gerdy St. Louis told Fox News.
No arrests were made, WSVN reported.
In January, the Transportation Security Administration began enforcing President Joe Biden’s order requiring face masks on public transportation as well as air travel. Violators could be fined up to $250 the first time and $1,500 for repeat offenses.
