PERU, Ind., — First responders in Indiana rescued a baby deer that was stuck in a drainage pipe, authorities said.
According to a Facebook post by the Peru Fire Department, a woman first spotted the fawn near a YMCA construction site in Peru on Monday afternoon.
When officials attempting to rescue the animal got closer, the fawn moved deeper into the drainage pipe and out of their reach, WTHR reported.
The superintendent for the construction site arrived and moved some of the pipe covers, the television station reported.
Officials were then able to coax the fawn out of the pipe, according to WTHR.
Firefighters were “able to pump water into one end of the pipe and safely push the fawn to the other end,” according to the Facebook post.
Officials named the 1-month-old fawn Trixie. She was taken to the Peru Animal Shelter and then to Wildcat Creek Wildlife Center to be rehabilitated, the television station reported.
After the deer recovers, she will be released back into the wild, according to WTHR.
