VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A Florida man who was convicted of aggravated assault for his role in the deaths of two spring breakers in 1998 was killed by a freight train Sunday night while he was lying across the railroad tracks, investigators said.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said Christopher Trull, 48, was hit by a Florida East Coast Railway train before 7 a.m. in Oak Hill, WFTV reported.
Trull was one of three brothers convicted for the killings of two Maryland men visiting New Smyrna Beach for spring break on April 16, 1998. Earlier that day, Joshua Trull had gotten into a fight with a group of spring breakers from Maryland. He later returned with his brothers, Jonathan and Christopher Trull, as well as four other men armed with knives, bats and a sock filled with a cue ball.
Matthew Wichita, 21, and Kevans Hall II, 23, were killed in the attack.
Jonathan Trull was sentenced to two life sentences. Joshua Trull was found guilty of two counts of aggravated battery and sentenced to 15 years in prison.
Christopher Trull was found guilty of three counts of aggravated assault and served five years in prison. He was released in 2002 but sent back after failing a drug test. He was released again in 2006 and disappeared. He was later caught in 2009 in Nassau County. That year, he was sentenced to six years for fleeing probation officers. Instead, he was given 1,065 days credit for time served. He was released May 17, 2010, according to the state department of corrections.
Investigators do not suspect foul play in the train accident, WFTV reported.
