Florida man jumps onto hood of truck, holds on for 9 miles

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. — A Florida man jumped onto the hood of a semi truck and held on for about 9 miles before he was detained and taken to a hospital for evaluation Saturday afternoon, officials said.

An unidentified white man was driving southbound on Interstate 95 when he inexplicably stopped his vehicle on the exit ramp near Boynton Beach and started walking along the highway, WPTV reported.

The man jumped over the median and caused traffic on the northbound side to slow down. He then jumped onto the hood of a semi truck and started punching the window, WSVN reported. The man got on the truck around mile marker 86 and the truck stopped at mile marker 95, WPTV reported.

Erik Morales, who was on a road trip to New York, recorded the incident on his cell phone.

“I zoom ahead of him, and I see a guy on the hood smashing the windshield with a flat bar, and then he took out the driver’s side window,” Morales told WSVN. “The guy on the hood had blood all over his face. He was only wearing socks and underwear.”

Edward Hughes, the truck driver, said that he panicked after the man jumped on the hood and started breaking the window and accelerated in an attempt to shake him off, TMZ reported.

Troopers detained the man, before medics took him to a hospital for evaluation.

The passenger in the man’s vehicle said the driver started acting strangely before stopping the vehicle, WPTV reported.
