WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Two Florida men who pleaded guilty to stealing 93 sea turtle eggs were sentenced to federal prison earlier this week.
Carl Lawrence Cobb dropped off Bruce Wayne Bivins at Singer Island Beach one night last May. Bivens found a sea turtle nest, removed 93 eggs then called Cobb to pick him up, investigators said.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers watched the poaching and stopped Cobb’s truck, and took the men into custody. They were planning to sell the eggs, which are protected under the Endangered Species Act.
The eggs were recovered and relocated by marine biologists.
Cobb, 65, was sentenced earlier this week in West Palm Beach federal court to serve nine months. Bivins, 65, received seven months last month.
