Florida teacher accused of exchanging explicit texts with student

PERRY, Fla. — A teacher at a north Florida private school is accused of exchanging text messages about sex with an 18-year-old student, authorities said Thursday.

Julie Kinsey Hoover, 38, of Perry, was arrested Wednesday and charged with an authority figure soliciting or engaging in sex with a student, according to Taylor County Sheriff’s Office online booking records.

Hoover is a teacher at Point of Grace Christian School in Perry, WCTV reported.

According to court documents, the mother of the student contacted the sheriff’s office on June 2 after finding explicit text messages between Hoover and her son.

Investigators said the text messages were exchanged in March and April 2022, WCTV reported. At the time, the student was enrolled in more than one class taught by Hoover, the television station reported.

Hoover was released Thursday after posting $15,000 bail, according to online booking records.

Officials at Point of Grace Christian School have not responded to requests for comment, WCTV reported.
