The Fugees on Friday announced the cancellation of their upcoming tour to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their acclaimed 1996 album, “The Score,” citing the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
“We anticipate and understand disappointment but our anniversary tour will not be able to happen,” Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel said in a statement posted on social media. “The continued Covid pandemic has made touring conditions difficult, and we want to make sure we keep our fans and ourselves healthy and safe.”
The tour, with stops in Chicago, Atlanta, Paris and several other cities, was set to kick off in November following a performance in New York City in September. However, The Fugees announced in October that tour dates would be pushed to early 2022 in light of the pandemic.

“We’re grateful for the special night we did get to share with some of you in New York, with that rare live moment,” the group said Friday. “If opportunity, public safety and scheduling allow, we hope to be able to revisit this again sometime soon.”
“The Score” spawned hits including “Ready or Not,” “Fu-Gee-La,” and “Killing Me Softly,” and went on to become one of the bestselling albums of all time. It earned The Fugees a Grammy Award for best rap album, while “Killing Me Softly” won best R&B performance by a duo or group with vocal.
The group’s performance in September marked their first in 15 years following a 2006 free outdoor show in Los Angeles.
