Hard liquor alcohol service to return on United Airlines flights

Passengers onboard United Airlines flights will soon be able to have a drink that has a bit more punch than a soda or a beer once again. But there will be limits as to when and how much alcohol will be served.

The in-flight beverage service will be expanded on Nov. 15, USA Today reported.

Some domestic, Canadian and Latin markets will once again have mini bottles of liquor in the economy section of the plane.

The flights have to cover at least 301 miles.

Passengers can have one cocktail, beer, wine or hard alcohol at a time with purchases made through the company’s contactless payment system.

Alcohol is free in premium cabins on all flights and in Economy Plus on premium transcontinental flights, Fox Business reported.

Some routes have complimentary beer and wine in United Economy, Fox Business reported.

Beer and wine are available for purchase on some domestic flights.

American Airlines plans to bring back hard booze in economy in mid-January.

United had started bringing back wine and beer sales on flights starting in November 2020. Other airlines still have not started selling alcohol on board their flights.

Southwest Airlines is staying dry until at least January after passenger outbursts became more frequent. There have been 4,941 incidents since the start of the year, according to the FAA.

The sale of alcohol is also connected to mask mandates on planes and airports which will be enforced through Jan. 18, USA Today reported.
