BRACKENRIDGE, Pa. — The suspect accused of killing a police chief and injuring an officer in a shooting was killed after a chase and shootout with police, WPXI reported.
Brackenridge Police Chief Justin McIntire was killed while responding to a call for shots fired shortly after 4 p.m. on Monday, WPXI reported. Allegheny County Police Superintendent Chris Kearns told the station that McIntire was shot in the head.
A second officer was injured in the shooting. That officer was shot in the leg and was listed in stable condition, according to WPXI.
“Today’s tragedy in Brackenridge is a devastating reminder of the bravery of those who put their lives on the line every day to protect us,” Pennsylvania Governor-elect Josh Shapiro said on Twitter. “Police Chief Justin McIntire ran towards danger to keep Pennsylvanians safe — and he made the ultimate sacrifice in service to community.”
Police identified a suspect in the shootings as Aaron Lamont Swan Jr. Multiple sources confirmed to WPXI that Swan was shot and killed after a chase in the city of Pittsburgh. Sources told WPXI’s Rick Earle that the suspect fired more than 50 rounds at officers in Pittsburgh, but none were hit.
Sources say the suspect fired more than 50 rounds at Pgh Police officers who were chasing him. Sources say it’s a miracle that no officers were hit by the stream of gun fire #wpxi
