The House committee investigating the events of Jan. 6, 2021, held its first public hearing Thursday night that saw a police officer testify, previously unseen videos shown and former President Donald Trump’s role in the events of the day examined.
The hearing, held in primetime and covered by most major networks, was the first of six hearings planned by the committee for the month of June.
The next hearing is set for Monday at 10 a.m. ET with a third hearing on Wednesday, also at 10 a.m. ET.
Those hearing dates and times are the only ones that the committee has confirmed so far. A draft document released prior to Thursday’s hearings indicated the other hearings would be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 16, and 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 21. The final hearing is scheduled for 8 p.m. on June 23.
The committee was established by the House to investigate the events surrounding the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, as members of Congress met to certify the results of the 2020 presidential election.
Who is on the committee?
The committee has nine members, seven Democrats and two Republicans. They are:
· Democrats: Chairman Bennie Thompson, Mississippi; Pete Aguilar, California; Zoe Lofgren, California; Elaine Luria, Virginia; Stephanie Murphy, Florida; Jamie Raskin, Maryland; Adam Schiff, California.
· Republicans: Liz Cheney, Wyoming; and Adam Kinzinger, Illinois.
