K-pop sensation BTS announces hiatus to recharge for ‘new chapter’

Supergroup BTS is taking a well-deserved breather before its next album drops in March, the K-pop sensation’s management team confirmed via Twitter on Sunday.

The statement, attributed to BigHit Music’s social media accounts, informed fans of the group’s second official “period of rest” since its 2019 debut.

According to the post, band members V, Suga, Jin, Jungkook, RM, Jimin and J-Hope will complete scheduled obligations, including “BTS Permission to Dance on Stage – LA” and the “2021 Jingle Ball Tour” before taking some time to “recharge” ahead of their “new chapter.”

The message then elaborated on the timing of the break, noting that the “period of rest will provide the members of BTS, who have tirelessly committed themselves to their activities, a chance to get re-inspired and recharge with creative energy.”

“It will also be the first time of them since their debut to spend the holiday season with their families. We kindly ask once again that you show consideration for their need to enjoy ordinary and free, everyday lives while solely concentrating on themselves, albeit for a short while, during their period of rest,” the statement continued.

Grammy-nominated BTS hinted at this “new chapter” during their video speech shown at Variety’s Hitmakers event on Saturday, the entertainment news outlet reported.

According to Variety, while accepting the “Record of the Year” award for “Butter,” RM said: “‘Butter’ holds a very special place in our heart. During these uncertain and turbulent times with the pandemic, we took time to look back on our past and present and decided to release ‘Butter’ in hopes of lifting spirits. The song became an anchor for us to enjoy what we can now and keep moving forward. We just finished our first in-person concert we longed for in two years, especially since the pandemic and this feels truly like the beginning of our new chapter.”

BigHit’s announcement came days after the South Korean group concluded a sold-out, four-night concert series at SoFi Stadium, attracting loyal fans from all over the United States and performing alongside fellow pop sensations Lil Nas X, Doja Cat and Ed Sheeran at Los Angeles’ Jingle Ball extravaganza at the Forum, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The iHeart Radio holiday festival will also visit Minneapolis, Philadelphia, New York, Boston, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Atlanta and Miami throughout the month of December, the newspaper confirmed.
