LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Kentucky nurse began her retirement in tremendous style.
The woman from Floyd County bought a $10 Tree-Mendous Winnings scratch-off ticket and won $200,000, WDRB reported.
According to Kentucky Lottery officials, the woman worked as a frontline nurse during the COVID-19 pandemic and recently retired after 36 years.
The woman, who lives in the eastern Kentucky town of Dana and wished to remain anonymous, bought a ticket at a convenience store in Prestonburg.
“It was unbelievable,” the woman said in a news release. “I had just retired that day. I saw this as a sign it was meant to be for me to quit working.”
The woman drove to lottery headquarters in Louisville last week and cashed her ticket. After taxes, she had net winnings of $142,000, WDRB reported.
The convenience store, a Double Kwik in Prestonburg, will receive a $2,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket, the television station reported.
