PASADENA, Calif. — California police are investigating an assault allegation against Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer, authorities said Tuesday.
Lt. Bill Grisafe of the Pasadena Police Department said officials were investigating an allegation from a woman about an incident that allegedly occurred on or about May 16, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Grisafe said police opened an investigation a few weeks ago and could not provide more information about the allegation, the newspaper reported. Court records show that a woman filed a restraining order against Bauer, 30, during that time frame, according to the Times.

Jon Fetterolf, an agent for Bauer, denied any wrongdoing by the 10-year major league veteran. In a statement, Fetterolf said the assault claim stems from a relationship between a woman and Bauer beginning in April, according to the Times.
“Any allegations that the pair’s encounters were not 100% consensual are baseless, defamatory, and will be refuted to the fullest extent of the law,” Fetterolf said.
The woman’s attorney, Marc Garelick, told TMZ that a judge issued the temporary restraining order Tuesday as “a result of a recent assault that took place at the hands of Mr. Bauer.”
Garelick also said that his client “suffered severe physical and emotional pain,” and that the goal of the order was to keep Bauer from contacting our client in any way possible.”
“We anticipate there will be criminal action against Mr. Bauer, and it is our hope law enforcement will take our client’s allegations and case seriously,” Garelick told TMZ.
Major League Baseball officials said they were aware of the accusation and were examining it. The Dodgers also released a statement that said team officials were aware of the allegations.

Lt. Carolyn Gordon, who is overseeing the investigation, told the Times that police have not yet presented a case to the district attorney’s office.
Bauer, a California native and former UCLA star, is in his first season with the Dodgers, KCBS reported. He has an 8-5 record in 2021 and is the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner. He currently has a 2.59 ERA in 17 starts and leads the N.L. in innings pitched (107 2/3) and strikeouts (137).
The Dodgers signed Bauer in February to a three-year, $102 million contract, the Times reported.
