According to WPLC, the incident occurred late Monday during maintenance at Westlake Chemical’s Petro Complex 2 Unit on state Highway 108 in Sulphur. The facility produces ethylene, a company spokesman said.

All of the victims, who were rushed to nearby hospitals, were contract employees, the spokesman told KPLC.

Sulphur resident Shawn Carter took to social media shortly before midnight local time to share a video of smoke rising from the plant, Newsweek reported.
