Louisiana lawmakers, governor take step to make daylight saving time year-round

Louisiana is one step closer to being at the same time all year long.

Gov. John Bel Edwards signed the bill passed by state lawmakers that makes daylight saving time the law of the state year-round.

But, there’s one more hurdle still to be crossed — the U.S Congress must amend federal law to allow states to decide to change from daylight saving and standard time to only having daylight saving, WAFB reported.

If the state gets the OK from Washington, then the law will take effect at 2 a.m. on the second Sunday in March.

Other states have already decided to forgo changing clocks forward and backward each year, Oregon and Washington state both have laws on the books to have daylight saving time be all year. However, Oregon’s time depends on what California does, ABC News reported.

Florida also passed a similar law that is also pending congressional approval, WFTS reported. Along with getting rid of the twice-a-year clock change, it also moves Florida’s panhandle from the Central time zone to Eastern, ABC News reported.

Hawaii and Arizona do not take part in daylight saving time, WFTS reported.
