FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. — A man has been arrested for allegedly beating another resident at a Florida nursing home on Wednesday.
WFTV says deputies arrived around 2 a.m. on Wednesday at Gold Choice Assisted Living & Memory Care facility in the Palm Coast area to find a 77-year-old woman dead in the room of another resident. Investigators found that the room belonged to Cliff Mody, 72, and the woman lived in another room. The woman had obvious signs of trauma.
According to a press release that WFTV obtained from the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, Mody allegedly admitted to deputies that he killed the woman.
“This arrest is the result of a thorough on-scene investigation by our Major Case Unit at this facility. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families involved and we worked hard to make sure the suspect is held accountable for his actions. Families need to know that their loved ones are safe when they are moved into the care of any facility and I encourage them to always conduct thorough facility research. I commend Detective Crosbee and the team that assisted him in bringing this case to a quick closure,” Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said in a Facebook post.
FCSO says Mody has been booked in jail on no bond with recommended charges of second-degree murder.
