Man arrested in connection with residential fire that killed 4 people

MONROE, La. — A Louisiana man is accused of setting fire to a home in which four people died on Friday, authorities said.

Michael Jarrod Cooper, 37, of West Monroe, was arrested Saturday and charged with four counts of first-degree murder, one count of aggravated arson and one count of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, according to Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office online booking records.

Deputies responded with the Ouachita Parish Fire Department to a reported residential fire at about 11:50 p.m. CDT, KTVE reported.

When the fire was extinguished, deputies found four deceased victims, according to the television station.

Authorities did not release the identities of the victims or their ages.

An investigation by the sheriff’s office led to the arrest of Cooper, according to KNOE-TV.

Autopsies will be performed on all four victims to determine their cause of death, the television station reported. An investigation is ongoing.

Bail was set at $4,260,000, online booking records show.
