Man charged after alleged street racing led to crash in Maryland that killed his 4-year-old daughter

SILVER SPRING, Md. — A man has been charged for allegedly racing another car in Maryland that led to a crash that killed his four-year-old daughter last year.

WRC-TV says Felipe Hernandez, 24, has been charged with manslaughter and other charges after a crash in Maryland last year killed his child, Ilianna Hernandez, 4. They say the crash was the result of street racing.

Iliana was in the back seat of her father’s Acura SUV in October 2021 when it crashed with a Ford Fusion. Iliana was taken to the hospital where she later died from her injuries, WRC-TV says.

Court records obtained by WDVM says Felipe and the driver of a Honda, Gilberto Duvan Guerra Posadas, 25, began an impromptu race. The race ended when they crashed into a Ford at a high speed that was trying to make a left turn. The Acura that Felipe was driving left the road and hit a wall, WDVM says.

WDVM says Felipe and Posadas were charged with manslaughter by a motor vehicle, two separate counts of second-degree assault, and driving a vehicle in a speed contest. Felipe turned himself in earlier this week and was released on a $10,000 unsecured personal bond, WDVM says. Posadas is in custody in Illinois on unrelated charges. According to WDVM, the driver of the Ford was given three citations for driving under the influence.
