MACON, Ga. — A man is behind bars following the shooting death of a 1-year-old Georgia boy, authorities said.
According to WSB-TV, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office arrested John Demetrious Simmons, 28, on felony murder, aggravated assault and weapons charges after his girlfriend’s young son was fatally shot in a Macon apartment Sunday night.
Deputies said Simmons was washing clothes in his girlfriend’s home at the time of the incident, WSB-TV reported. After leaving the room, she heard a gunshot and returned to find the child shot, according to the news outlet.
The baby, Monterrious Brown, later died at a nearby hospital, authorities said.
Deputies later interviewed and arrested Simmons, who remains jailed without bond, WSB-TV reported.
