SAN DIEGO — San Diego police are searching for a man they said pushed another man into an oncoming train early Saturday, causing his death.
According to detectives, two men exited a southbound trolley at around 6:15 a.m. and were walking on the Old Town Trolley station platform when one man pushed the other into a passing freight train, KSWB reported.
“While it is still early in the investigation,” authorities said, it appeared the attack came “without provocation,” the TV station reported.
Train service was shut down at the station Saturday morning while police investigated, but all routes had resumed normal schedules by 12:30 p.m., North County Transit confirmed to KSWB.
San Diego Police Department Lt. Andra Brown told KNSD that responding officers found the victim, who has not been identified publicly, with trauma to his upper body. He later died at the scene and is believed to have been in his 60s, Brown confirmed.
According to police, the man who shoved the victim into the train boarded a trolley following the attack and left the area. He was described as a “light-skinned male,” around 5 feet 8 inches tall with a thin build, wearing all black clothing, KSWB reported.
Authorities are hopeful surveillance video of the attack will help lead them to the suspect, the TV station reported.
