SAN FRANCISCO — As if California wasn’t strange enough. A man wearing a teddy bear suit completed a 400-mile walk from Los Angeles to San Francisco on Saturday, KTVU reported.
Jessy Larios, 33, reached his destination, the Golden Gate Bridge, on Saturday afternoon, wearing a costume he calls “Bearsun,” according to Reuters.
Larios began his journey in Los Angeles’ Little Toyko neighborhood on April 12 and had hoped to reach his destination on April 17, but it took a bit longer to get there, KTVU reported. Larios wanted to walk between 30 to 50 miles daily, but parts of the trip were through mountainous terrain, CNN reported. Road closures forced Larios to take some detours, making his trip longer.
“It was an impulsive decision for sure. I didn’t plan it out,” Larios told Reuters.
Larios is a California native who works for a company that sells health insurance plans, CNN reported. He has completed one marathon dressed as Bearsun, a character he created, but this trek was much longer.
“I’m like a puppy, I guess,” Larios told CNN. “I just see something, and I chase after it.”
The colors for his costume were inspired by his dog, appropriately named Bear, in 2016, according to CNN.
Larios’ GoFundMe account for the event already surpassed its $10,000 goal; as of Saturday evening, more than $15,200 had been pledged. Larios said he plans to hold an online vote to determine where to donate the money, The Sacramento Bee reported.
“Everything’s been pretty wild, to be honest,” Larios told Reuters. “It inspires me to do new things. It brings new ideas. It fuels my creativity. It helps out a lot and it feels good too.”
