In a statement posted to its Facebook page, the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office said that Jaylan Davis, a murder suspect who was released mistakenly on Thursday, surrendered early Saturday.

Davis, 25, is being held without bond, the sheriff’s office said, according to WSOC.

“I am grateful that it appears that no one was harmed as a result of this mishap, though I am sure it was an emotional rollercoaster for the families involved. Our criminal justice system will never be flawless, but we will learn from this experience and improve our process accordingly,” Sheriff Garry McFadden said in the statement.

The charges were not dismissed and the court order that led to Davis’ accidental arrest appears to be a clerical error, WSOC reported.

Davis was charged with murder last November, according to the news outlet. He was charged in connection with the murder of Arthur Mikulski, 42.

Davis is expected back in court on Monday, the sheriff’s office said.
