It’s the word Americans love to hate.
“Whatever” has once again claimed the title of most annoying word or phrase used in conversation, according to the annual Marist Poll. The dismissive term has held the title for more than a decade, according to Marist.
Runner-up in the poll was “no offense, but.” A poll newcomer, “dude,” came in third place.
Mary Griffith, director of Media Initiatives and Polling News at The Marist Poll, said “whatever” has earned its longevity in pop culture thanks in part to the 1995 film, “Clueless.”
