Massachusetts man sought in 2 New England states arrested in Maine

PORTLAND, Maine — A Massachusetts man wanted in two New England states on murder charges was arrested in Maine on Friday, authorities said.

The Maine Violent Offender Task Force arrested Ramon Smith, 33, at a hotel in Ellsworth, Ryan Guay, a deputy U.S. Marshal for the District of Maine, said in a news release. Smith was arrested after officers identified him as a passenger in a vehicle in the hotel’s parking lot, the Press-Herald of Portland reported.

According to the U.S. Marshals Service, Smith was wanted on a warrant for homicide in Connecticut and strangulation in Massachusetts, the Bangor Daily News reported.

After Smith was arrested, task force agents recovered a loaded .380-caliber pistol, 116 grams of cocaine, 76.3 grams of cocaine base, 67 grams of fentanyl and $4,970 in cash, the newspaper reported.

In addition to the charges from Connecticut and Massachusetts, Smith was charged in Maine with aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, the Press-Herald reported.

Information about the warrants in Connecticut and Massachusetts were not immediately available, according to the newspaper.

The Maine Violent Offender Task Force was assisted by the U.S. Marshal offices in Connecticut and Massachusetts, the Maine State Police, the MDEA Downeast Drug Task Force and the Ellsworth Police Department, WAGM reported.
