Hart, 36, was carted off the field with 4:54 remaining in the first quarter after Indiana University kicked an extra point to tie the game at 7, ESPN and The Detroit News reported. According to Big Ten Network, Hart suffered a seizure.

A Michigan spokesperson on the field told MLive.com that Hart was taken to an area hospital for further evaluation.

Michigan’s players cleared the bench and spread out across the field, with many players dropping to one knee, according to ESPN.

Hart was moving his head and appeared to be speaking to the cart driver as he was taken to the locker room, the News reported.

“Mike had a medical emergency during the game and he’s in a stable condition,” Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh said in a statement. “He’s going to stay overnight in Bloomington for continued observation. Mike is a strong guy and abundant prayers go his way. It really puts things in perspective.

“In the moment, everybody’s thoughts were with Mike. Mine were and everyone around us was to get him the care that he needed. The most important thing is his health at that point in time.”

Hart is in his second year as running backs coach at Michigan, MLive reported. He is the all-time leading rusher for the Wolverines, gaining 5,040 yards and scoring 41 touchdowns from 2004 to 2007, according to Sports-Reference.com.

He finished fifth in voting for the Heisman Trophy in 2006.

Saturday’s game marked the return of Hart to Indiana, where he was an assistant from 2017 to 2020, ESPN reported.

Michigan won the game, 31-10.
