According to KRCG and KMIZ, Jason C. Williams, 29, and Kayla A. Brewer, 19, both of Jefferson City, have been indicted on one count each of second-degree murder, child abuse or neglect, delivering a controlled substance, child endangerment causing death, and receiving stolen property. Williams and Brewer also face two counts each of possessing a controlled substance, and Williams faces four counts of child endangerment creating a “substantial risk,” the news outlets reported.

The Cole County Sheriff’s Office said the baby died last September at a Pitchfork Alley home, according to the outlets. On Oct. 8, deputies arrested the couple on drug and child endangerment charges, authorities said.

After conducting an autopsy on the infant, medical examiners said the baby died in a homicide from exposure to “a significant amount of methamphetamine,” KRCG reported. Authorities then charged the couple in connection with the baby’s death, according to the news outlets.

Williams and Brewer remain jailed without bond, authorities said.
