ST. LOUIS — A Missouri mother and her 5-year-old son are dead following an apparent murder-suicide in St. Louis, authorities said.
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and KTVI, the deadly shooting occurred shortly after 6 a.m. Wednesday in a Quincy Street home. St. Louis police responded to a report of gunfire and arrived to find a 25-year-old woman “acting irrationally,” the Post-Dispatch reported.
Amid concerns that the woman was armed and exhibiting signs of mental impairment, officers left the house and asked for backup, according to the newspaper. The officers returned to the home after hearing a gunshot and found the bodies of the woman and her young son, KTVI reported.
Investigators believe the woman, whose name was not released, fatally shot herself after killing the child, although it wasn’t immediately clear whether she shot the boy before or after police responded, the Post-Dispatch reported.
