GREAT FALLS, Mont. — A Montana man is recovering after being mauled by a grizzly bear Monday in an abandoned barn.
Shannun Rammell, 50, was looking for the bear after a neighbor reported seeing tracks in the area, the Great Falls Tribune reported.
The family drove to an unoccupied farm nearby but saw no signs of the animal. They were about to head home when Rammell decided to check a barn. As soon as he stuck his head inside, he startled the bear, which threw him in the air. Rammell suffered from bites and scratches on his shoulders and arms that needed stitches.
"It was pretty rough to watch," family friend Julie Brantley told the Tribune. "Their poor little girl was there and witnessed the whole thing. She was very traumatized."
Wildlife officials set up traps in the area to catch the bear. As of Tuesday, it had not yet been captured.
