Family members said Sunday that Martha Earnhardt, the matriarch of the famed Earnhardt racing family, died the evening of Christmas, WSOC-TV reported.
She was 91, according to NASCAR.com.
In a joint statement published on social media, Martha Earnhardt’s grandchildren, Kelley Earnhardt Miller and Dale Earnhardt Jr., said they “find solace in knowing she is at peace in eternal glory and in joyous reunion with her husband, Ralph, and sons Dale, Randy and Danny.”
“Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers, and thank you so much for loving our Mamaw as if she were your own,” the statement said. “She was not just the matriarch to our family, but she was the matriarch to multiple generations of race fans.”
Her death came weeks after the passing of her youngest son, Danny Earnhardt Sr., WSOC reported. The 66-year-old mechanic for JR Motorsports died Dec. 10, according to the company.
Martha Earnhardt is survived by her daughters, Kaye and Cathy, according to WSOC.
