PORT RICHEY, Fla. — A Port Richey, Florida, man surrendered to authorities Sunday morning, admitting to his role in a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a 7-year-old boy on Saturday night.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Shaun Elliott Wyrich, 19, has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving a death and no motorcycle endorsement, the Tampa Bay Times reported.
Neighbors told WFLA that the boy was looking at Christmas lights with his mom and siblings in the Jasmine Estates neighborhood when the motorcycle hit him as he crossed Regency Park Boulevard just before 9:30 p.m.
The child was declared dead a short while later at an area hospital, both outlets reported.
According to troopers, Wyrich, who was driving a 2018-2020 Kawasaki Ninja 400, was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed when he hit the child and fled the scene, WFLA reported.
