3 injured after shooting at Kalamazoo bus station; suspect fatally shot

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A gunman opened fire Saturday morning at a bus station in Kalamazoo, Michigan, injuring several people before being fatally shot by responding officers, authorities said.

According to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, police were called to the Kalamazoo Transportation Center at 9:15 a.m. EST, WOOD-TV reported.

Update 6:10 p.m. EST Nov. 27: Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Police Chief Vernon Coakley confirmed that three people were shot, WWMT reported. He added there was no threat to the community.

The suspect was identified as Anthony Oliver, 54, Coakley said Oliver got on a bus and began shooting, WOOD-TV reported. Three passengers were wounded, the television station reported.

Coakley told reporters that it was unclear whether Oliver knew any of the passengers.

Oliver was killed after an exchange of gunfire with police, WOOD reported. He was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the television station.

Original report: Multiple victims were found with injuries, but they are not considered life-threatening, the television station reported. Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Police Chief Vernon Coakley said three to four people were shot, including the shooter, WWMT reported. He did not provide an exact number.

Bus services were suspended for the day, according to the television station.
