GASTONIA, N.C. — Authorities arrested a North Carolina man last week after he called the White House switchboard several times with threats to kill President Joe Biden and others, according to federal prosecutors and WSOC-TV.
Officials on Thursday unsealed a federal criminal complaint filed against 27-year-old David Kyle Reeves, of Gastonia, charging him with one count of threatening the president. Authorities arrested Reeves on Friday.
In an affidavit obtained by WSOC, officials said a switchboard operator notified the Secret Service because Reeves called several times and threatened federal officials between Jan. 28 and Feb. 1.
“I am going to (expletive) kill you all,” he said during one call, according to authorities. “(Expletive) the White House. I am going to chop your heads off.”
In separate calls, he apparently threatened to kill members of Congress and told the Secret Service to pick him up and take him to the White House, “so he can punch the president in the face, sit in his chair, and stay there until he dies,” WSOC reported.
Authorities said a Secret Service agent contacted Reeves on Feb. 1 to discuss the threats. Reeves called the agent back several times over the course of the day to repeat threats against Biden, the agent and others, according to investigators.
“I’m going to come kill the president,” Reeves said in a call with Special Agent Scott Jensen, WSOC reported. “I’m going to kill the Secret Service because I own this whole planet.”
Officials said Reeves also called the U.S. Capitol police switchboard on Feb. 1 to make similar threats.
Reeves appeared in court Thursday morning for a hearing before U.S. Magistrate Judge David C. Keesler, who ordered him to remain in custody. If convicted, Reeves could face a maximum of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Officials with the Secret Service are investigating.
