Nearly 100 shots fired near youth baseball game in South Carolina

Nearly 100 gunshots were fired near a youth baseball game in South Carolina on Monday night, sending kids and coaches to the ground for safety.

According to police reports, witnesses told police a “large” group of teenagers pulled into the parking lot of Pepperhill Park in North Charleston, South Carolina, and began fighting.

Officers were told the teens began shooting at each other before they fled in their vehicles.

Police said it appeared shots were fired from one vehicle toward another.

In a video captured by a parent at the field, the sound of multiple gunshots can be heard as children and officials run for cover.

Multiple vehicles in the parking lot of the park were damaged by the gunfire.

North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey said the city is offering a $10,000 reward for the arrest of the people involved in the shooting.

“We will not tolerate this behavior and we will not allow this behavior to carry forward,” Summey said.

Officials with the recreation department said they plan to add police officers at every facility with an outdoor sports complex.

They added that two officers will be placed at Pepperhill Park when games are in session.

Games at Pepperhill Park were canceled for Tuesday and Wednesday.

Police said one firearm was recovered Monday night from a vehicle at the scene and two additional firearms were found near the park.
