Michael Meyer, 54, of Rochester, was charged with overdriving, torturing and injuring an animal, WROC reported. If convicted of the misdemeanor offenses, Meyer could face a $1,000 fine and one year in prison, the television station reported.

According to officials at the Lollypop Farm Humane Society of Greater Rochester, a person, later identified as Meyer, was caught on a video punching a German shepherd in the washroom of the Henrietta Country Max store.

Investigators said they were originally unable to find Meyer, WHAM reported. However, on Tuesday officials received a 911 tip and assistance from Crime Stoppers and located Meyer. He was subsequently arrested.

“This type of violence against a family pet is not something we can tolerate in our community,” Reno Di Domenico, Lollypop Farm’s vice president for law enforcement told WROC. “We are grateful to the patrons and store employees who reported this crime and the good Samaritan who sent in the tip that made it possible to bring this animal abuser to justice.”

Meyer is due in court in April, WHAM reported.
