CORNING, N.Y. — A woman from New York state is behind bars after police said she used a hammer to beat and kill a 100-year-old man.
According to the Elmira Star-Gazette, police arrested and charged Brenda L. McKay, 51, of Corning, with second-degree murder Saturday in the death of Gerald C. Early. WHAM-TV reported that Early was McKay’s father.
Authorities discovered Early unconscious and suffering from head trauma in his West First Street home about 1:15 p.m. Saturday, the news outlets reported. Emergency responders flew Early to a Pennsylvania hospital, where doctors pronounced the man dead.
Investigators, who believe that McKay hit Early with a hammer multiple times, have not publicly released a possible motive for the slaying, according to the Star-Gazette.
McKay is being held at the Steuben County Jail, officials said.
