NEW YORK — The dismembered body of a New York City woman was found stuffed inside a duffel bag, authorities said Saturday.
Orsolya Gaal, 51, of Queens, was found shortly after 8 a.m. when a man walking his dog found the bag, WCBS-TV reported. Police discovered Gaal’s body, which had not started to decompose, in a neighborhood in Queens, the television station reported.
Police said that blood found at the woman’s residence matched what was found in the duffel bag, WABC-TV reported. Neighbors told the television station that Gaal lived with her husband, a 17-year-old son and a 13-year-old son.
Police said that the 13-year-old was taken in for questioning but has since been released, WCBS reported.
“Yesterday we were in our backyard and she was outside with her dog just doing regular stuff,” John Blankson, a neighbor, told WABC. “We were going to go to the son’s bar mitzvah a few weeks ago but the father got COVID so the bar mitzvah was canceled.”
“Just so tragic. I just feel sick to the bone about hearing this,” Nicola Blankson told WCBS. “She enjoyed life. She was out and about, you know, socializing, seeing theaters, traveling.”
No arrests have been made. The circumstances leading to Gaal’s death have not been confirmed by police, WNBC-TV reported.
“This is crazy,” Dolores Diaz, another neighbor, told WPIX-TV. “I hope they find whoever did it.”
