SEA RANCH, Calif. — Two men were found dead inside a California home on Thursday, officials say.
In a news release, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said that dispatch was called just before 11:30 a.m. about two men who were reportedly found dead inside a house in the 300 block of Spinnaker Close in Sea Ranch.
The two men were found by a tree crew that had gone over to the house to remove a tree that had fallen on the home. According to KTVU, it is not clear if the tree that fell on the house had knocked out power to the structure.
The men have been identified as Gene Beauchamp, 74, and Phil Mabray, 61, according to KTVU.
CalFire crews were the first to respond and pronounced both men dead, according to SCSO.
SCSO is investigating both of their deaths, according to KRON. Their bodies were found in separate bedrooms of the house and a generator was discovered in the hallway. The power switch was reportedly turned on with an empty fuel tank.
SCSO said it is very dangerous to operate generators inside a building because they release noxious fumes that can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning and death. SCSO said that generators should be operated outdoors, about 20 feet or more away from any buildings.
No further information has been released.
