VINLAND, Wis. — An 8-month-old baby has died after a semi crashed into a Wisconsin house Monday evening, officials say.
According to a news release from the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, around 6 p.m., multiple calls came through dispatch about a semi tractor-trailer that was involved in a crash. WSCO said the semi was traveling on Interstate 41 southbound when it had changed direction suddenly off the highway through a fence line, crossed a frontage road and crashed into a house.
According to WLUK, the house that the semi crashed into had people inside at the time, including an 8-month-old baby boy that deputies confirmed had died as a result of the crash.
WCSO said the driver of the semi-tractor-trailer was a 63-year-old man who had minor injuries.
“We would like to extend a special thanks to two tow companies who quickly responded with heavy wreckers to try to help assist, Accel Auto and Expert Towing. Please keep your thoughts with the family and friends of everyone involved,” said WSCO in a news release.
No further information has been released. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, according to WCSO.
