Ohio father arrested after toddler son accidentally shoots himself, police say

COLUMBUS, Ohio — An Ohio father is behind bars after police said his toddler son accidentally shot himself in Columbus.

According to WBNS and WTTE, Columbus police responded to a report of a shooting about 11:30 a.m. Monday at a Bancroft Street home. The parents of a 23-month-old boy told police that the child had found a firearm and shot himself, WTTE reported.

The boy was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment of critical injuries, according to the news outlets. Authorities believe he will survive, WBNS reported.

Police arrested Demonte Walker Sr., 24, the toddler’s father, on a child endangerment charge, the stations reported. He remains in the Franklin County Jail.
