LOS ANGELES — A volleyball player who helped the United States win a silver medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing said she was attacked in downtown Los Angeles by a homeless man with a pipe.
Kim Glass shared a video to her Instagram stories detailing her account of what happened. In the video, Glass has a visibly injured face, with stitches above one eye that is swollen shut, and a bleeding gash on her nose.
In the video, Glass said she was leaving after having lunch with a friend Saturday when a man approached her. She described the man as homeless, and said, “He just looked at me with some pretty hateful eyes,” saying she thought he was going to attack a car she was standing near, KTLA reported.
Glass said the man had a metal pipe and used it to hit her in the face, leaving her with a fractured cheek. A group of strangers came to help her, as well as restrain the suspect until police arrived, KABC reported.
Los Angeles police told KTLA that Semeon Tesfamarium was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the case.
