An Oregon man attempting to shoot a bear near his home fatally shot his brother by mistake and then turned the gun on himself, authorities said.
According to Josephine County Undersheriff Travis Snyder, the man called 911 at about 7 a.m. PST Tuesday, The Oregonian reported. The man told dispatchers he had “accidentally shot his brother while loading a gun” after he was startled by the bear, according to the newspaper.
Deputies went to the home in the unincorporated area of Sunny Valley and found a man dead from a gunshot wound, according to The Oregonian.

Upon further investigation, deputies found a second man dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, the newspaper reported.
Oregon State Police and local deputies continue to investigate the shootings.
